Coaches

Thank you for volunteering to coach. The positive impact that coaches have on the lives of young people is an intangible reward and impossible to value. As a WCRC coach you are responsible for working in cooperation with and at the direction of program coordinators to support activities including practices, games and tournaments. Successful coaches are able to effectively teach skills and game strategies through organized practices while providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all players, giving each child an equal opportunity to participate. Serving as a mentor and role model to all participants and their families; our successful coaches lead through sportsmanship conduct, posses strong communication skills with the ability to encourage parent involvement and coordinate their assistance. Regardless of your coaching experience level or knowledge of the game WCRC strongly recommends coaches to commit to:

1. Annual coach training - learn why it matters
2. Concussion and TBI training
3. Staying current on youth sports coaching through various media and publications

There are many good online training courses available in addition to those offered through the various sports leagues. Some are free while others require a fee but any investment of your time in learning more about the fundamentals of coaching in addition to the skills, techniques and strategies for your specific sports programming will ensure a rewarding coaching experience and a safe, positive season experience for our community youth. To help get you started listed below are organizations and/or courses for you to check out. Good luck and may you have a season filled with learning, laughter and sportsmanship.
