About Us

The Carroll Youth Competitive Art League (CYCAL) began its inaugural, six week, program in November 2015. Created by parent volunteers who saw a need in the community for a creative experience outside of traditional art lessons or contests. “A safe and fun atmosphere where kids can come together, learn art techniques and share their ideas about art was missing in our community. The additional opportunity for them to learn the valuable life skills of time management, competition and group problem solving in a setting outside of sports was also hard to find.”

The mission of the Carroll Youth Competitive Art League provides kids aged 10 – 16 the opportunity to learn a variety of art techniques and mediums, create independent and group original art work, and to creatively solve problems together in a fun and supportive group environment. A sponsored program of the West Carroll Recreation Council and modeled after reality shows such as SYFY Channels “Faceoff” and Lifetime’s “Project Runway”, without eliminations, the program taps local artists who volunteer their time.  Youth artists learn a different art medium each week and then enjoy competitive challenges on Saturdays with the artist serving as a guest judge. An end of session art exhibit rounds out the season.

Practices and Saturday challenges are held at both Runnymede Elementary School, Langdon Drive, Westminster and the New Windsor Community Room, Green Valley Road, New Windsor. See our Facebook page for more details, or contact coordinator at [email protected].
